Every plant has inflation worries but energy cost increases are one part of inflation where you can fight back. Energy savings is a growing opportunity. If you find the prospect of reducing energy costs by 5% - 15% compelling, NYSERDA now has several spots in its Strategic Energy Management program that provides a no-cost Energy Coach and mechanical engineer to support your cost reduction effort. Translate cost savings opportunities into actions and actual dollars returned to other uses instead of utility bills through this no-cost program.

NYSERDA’s Energy Coaches have worked with over 100 sites and bring experience that can save you money right away:

•             A site in Rockland got a utility lighting rebate for a project already completed as a result of their first meeting with their Energy Coach. Their CFO also spent 20 minutes listening to the Coach explain how the Production and Site Managers had identified compressed air system changes as a big savings opportunity and OK’d pursuing it on the spot.

•             A site in Orange County reviewed a dozen cost savings opportunities with their Energy Coach walking through their process. One of these was simply resetting a sump pump float to avoid unnecessary run time, saving $1,000 per year for no expense at all. This has encouraged the site “energy team” to work with the Energy Coach to find other no cost changes to their production and write up the projected savings for several needed capital improvements as well.

•             Corning, Inc. Property Manager Bob Ohl wrote to their Coach: “Your capture of opportunities is getting a lot of positive reviews. We see us being able to use this type of application in safety, production, maintenance priority setting…We believe everyone has gotten something out of the audit and (it) opened our eyes to opportunities.”
