Apprenticeships are offered in a wide range of trades, from Industrial Manufacturing Technician and CNC Machinist to Electro-Mechanical Technician, Quality Control, Maintenance Mechanic, and more.

Trade descriptions outline the day-to-day work, skills required, and long-term opportunities for each occupation so employers and apprentices can make informed decisions about the best fit.

Description of trades

What’s in a trade description?

A trade description gives you a snapshot of the role: what the job involves, where you might work, and which tools, technologies, and processes you’ll use every day. It also outlines how classroom learning and on-the-job experience fit together.

For employers, trade outlines help align internal training with New York State standards. For apprentices, they provide a roadmap of the skills and knowledge needed to complete the program and advance in the field.
