Equipment & Capacity

Sharp Tooling maintains a diversified equipment base of approximately 42 machines, allowing multiple stages of a project to be completed internally and helping reduce lead times and dependence on outside processing. Equipment includes CNC turning centers, CNC vertical mills, surface and cylindrical grinders, jig grinders, submerged wire EDM, sinker EDM, CAD/CAM systems, laser marking equipment and advanced inspection systems.

Notable capabilities include a DMG Mori NLX 2500/700 high-precision CNC lathe with live tooling, capable of turning diameters up to 21 inches and holding tolerances as tight as ±0.0001". Milling capabilities accommodate travels up to approximately 40" × 20" × 20", while Wire EDM can accommodate workpieces up to approximately 47.2" × 27.6" × 15.8".

Materials

Sharp Tooling works with a variety of materials, including:

Tool steels | Hardened steels | Aluminum | Carbide | Stainless steel | Plastics | Rubber | Titanium and other specialty materials, depending on the machining process.

Tool & Die Capabilities

Sharp Tooling provides new tooling as well as maintenance and repair for existing dies. Services include die design, CAD modeling, new die creation, first-hit sample parts, component replacement, reverse engineering, sharpening, reconditioning, partial and complete die repair, and die-efficiency reviews.

Quality & Inspection

In-house inspection capabilities support dimensional verification, reverse engineering, targeted rework and quality control. Inspection equipment includes an optical and 3D multi-sensor measurement system with accuracy up to 2 µm, Rockwell hardness testing, Micro-Hite gauging, profilometry and optical comparison.

Additional Managed Services

Through its supplier network, Sharp Tooling can also coordinate:

Heat treating | Black oxide coating | Plating | Welding | Lapping | Laser cutting | Waterjet cutting | Centerless/OD grinding | 3D printing

Industries Served

Sharp Tooling supports manufacturers across numerous sectors, including aerospace, automotive, machinery manufacturing, fabricated metal products, tool & die, packaging, plastics, food manufacturing, chemical processing, thermal/heat-transfer, textile and saw/blade manufacturing.

Production & Supply Chain Support

The company's Sharp Tooling Program provides an ongoing solution for production-critical and perishable tooling. Sharp Tooling can maintain semi-finished inventory to reduce lead times while providing set pricing, controlled inventory costs and more reliable delivery. Program tooling can include punches, dies, blades, slitters, scrapers, crimp wheels, installation tools and form tools.

Best Fit For: Manufacturers seeking close-tolerance machined components, custom tooling, replacement tooling, tool and die repair, reverse engineering, low-volume precision parts, production-critical tooling, rapid tooling replacement, or an ongoing tooling supply program.
