Northland works directly with Western New York manufacturers to close critical skills gaps by developing qualified talent in CNC machining, welding, mechatronics, electrical trades, advanced manufacturing, and other high-demand technical fields.

Northland provides employers with access to skilled candidates graduating from programs in CNC Manufacturing and Machining, Machine Tool Technology, Welding Technology, Mechatronics, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, and other technical disciplines. Training combines classroom education with extensive hands-on experience using modern manufacturing equipment and technologies.

Manufacturing training includes CNC milling and turning, CNC programming, machine setup and operation, manual machining, lathes, milling machines, grinding, engineering drawing interpretation, precision measurement, inspection, quality control, shop mathematics, and manufacturing safety. Welding training includes plate and pipe welding, layout and fit-up, welding codes and standards, inspection, testing, welding symbols, and advanced welding techniques. Mechatronics training develops multi-craft technicians with skills in electrical systems, mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, robotics, computer technologies, equipment installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.

Northland also works directly with employers to develop customized workforce training based on specific company needs. Training can be provided at Northland’s advanced manufacturing facility, at an employer’s facility, or at another appropriate location. Northland assists manufacturers with developing apprenticeships, co-ops, internships, and other work-based learning opportunities that connect employers directly with emerging technical talent.

In addition to workforce development, Northland Manufacturing operates a B2B contract manufacturing machine shop within the Workforce Training Center. Northland Manufacturing provides a non-competitive sourcing option for manufacturers needing additional production capacity while simultaneously giving students real-world manufacturing experience. Contract manufacturing capabilities include CNC milling, CNC turning, light assembly, and traditional job shop services. Manufacturers can utilize Northland Manufacturing for projects that may fall outside their core competencies, alleviate internal capacity constraints, reduce production costs, or free internal resources for higher-priority projects.

Northland also provides career coaching, job placement, and extensive student support services. Career Coaches and Placement Specialists work with graduates to transition them into employment, with continued support available after they enter the workforce.
