Liston Manufacturing Inc. Profile

Liston Manufacturing, Inc. is a North Tonawanda, NY-based precision machining and specialty bearing manufacturer

Liston Manufacturing, Inc. is a North Tonawanda, NY-based precision machining and specialty bearing manufacturer specializing in Babbitt-lined bearings, CNC machining, short production runs, prototyping, reverse engineering, and build-to-print manufacturing. Founded in Western New York in the 1950s, Liston serves OEMs, equipment manufacturers, defense-related customers, high-speed compressor manufacturers, and industrial end users requiring precision components and fast turnaround.

Liston is a specialist in solid and split Babbitt-lined bearings, with more than 40 years of experience centrifugally casting and statically pouring Babbitt on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The company manufactures journal bearings, thrust bearings, journal-thrust bearings, sleeve bearings, tilt-pad bearings, ball-and-socket bearing designs, copper thrust pads, high-speed bearings, and other custom bearing components.

Babbitting capabilities include centrifugal casting and static pouring for bearings up to approximately 21 inches OD. Liston uses Certified Grade II Babbitt unless otherwise specified by the customer. Babbitted components can undergo dye penetrant inspection and ultrasonic testing to verify the integrity of the bond between the Babbitt and base metal.

Precision CNC machining is a major part of Liston's operation. Capabilities include CNC turning, CNC milling, multi-axis machining, 5-axis milling, mill-turn machining, live-tool turning, twin-spindle machining, Wire EDM, surface grinding, rotary grinding, OD grinding, drilling, sawing, and other conventional and CNC machining processes.

Advanced machining equipment includes Okuma 5-axis milling centers, Mazak Integrex multi-tasking machining centers, Doosan/Puma turning and milling equipment, Hurco 3+2 machining, Mitsubishi Wire EDM systems, CNC lathes, machining centers, grinders, manual mills, saws, and electronic etching equipment.

Mazak Integrex equipment allows Liston to combine turning, milling, and drilling operations within a single setup, helping reduce setups while improving dimensional consistency on complex precision components. Machining capabilities support parts up to approximately 24 inches in machining diameter and 59 inches in machining length on its Integrex equipment, while other turning equipment supports components up to approximately 60 inches in length.

Liston specializes in one-off components and short production runs, typically including quantities of approximately 5–25 pieces. Quick-turn manufacturing is available for customers with urgent requirements, replacement components, prototype programs, maintenance needs, development projects, or limited-volume production.

R&D prototyping services allow Liston to work directly with customer engineering teams to manufacture prototype components for testing and design validation. The company can support iterative changes to sleeve, tilt, ball-and-socket, and other bearing designs, helping engineers refine components around specific operating requirements.

Reverse-engineering capabilities are available for obsolete, damaged, difficult-to-source, or undocumented bearings and components. Liston can reverse engineer an existing bearing and work with engineering resources to replicate its original form, fit, and function, providing a valuable option when drawings have been lost or an original supplier is no longer available.

Liston also provides on-site bearing assembly and inspection. Completed bearing assemblies can be inspected to verify set bore, preload, dimensions, and design requirements, with detailed inspection reports available.

Additional value-added capabilities include installation of Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs) and thermocouples into bearings and other customer applications. Liston can also help integrate temperature-sensing technology into existing component designs.

Quality and inspection resources include Zeiss Contoura G2 and Brown & Sharpe coordinate measuring machines (CMM), a Microval measuring machine, ultrasonic flaw detection, calibrated gauging equipment, material certifications, dimensional inspection, dye penetrant testing, and inspection reporting.

Liston also supports Just-In-Time manufacturing programs. Customers can establish blanket orders and minimum/maximum inventory parameters for recurring components, allowing Liston to manufacture and deliver parts as required while helping customers reduce on-site inventory.
