Integument Technologies Profile

Integument is a manufacturer of surface protection films and coatings in a tape-like form.

Integument is a manufacturer, specifically a materials converter, specializing in fluoropolymer films.  Fluoropolymers provide superior chemical/corrosion resistance, UV and environmental protection, and provide an anti-stick/easy-clean surface.  Integument laminates a pressure sensitive adhesive to one side of the film, so that the tape-like films can be installed by simply peeling off a temporary backing liner and sticking the films to your surface.  Unlike epoxies and paints, there is no mixing, no cure time, no volatile/toxic fumes, but there is a uniform thickness coating that is ready to work.

Integument was formed as a spin-off from the State University of New at Buffalo in 1997.  Then PhD student Terrence (Terry) Vargo was working with fluoropolymers, which are highly anti-stick.  Terry invented a specialized plasma surface modification process that enables adhesives, inks, and other materials to bond to fluoropolymers.  Integument trademarked that process as FluoroGrip, and the process is still considered class leading.

Often funded by the Department of Defense, Terry continued research at Integument to develop and mature paint replacement films for aviation with multifunctional uses.  On the commercial side, one primary product line evolved based on the best chemically resistant fluoropolymer PTFE, available from 1 sqft sheets to 2,000 sqft rolls.  Integument has several other specialized product lines such as optically clear films for windows and signs (anti-haze, anti-graffiti), thicker adhesives for installation on rough surfaces like concrete or brick, and the inclusion of a conducting layer for enhanced lightning strike protection on wind turbine blades.

While Integument is a micro-company, it sells nationally and internationally.  Through the BNMA, Integument also seeks to expand its local and regional market.
