Aurubis Buffalo, Inc. Profile
Aurubis Buffalo, Inc. employs 650 people to support the production and sales of copper and brass sheet and strip for various applications.
The Buffalo plant was originally built back in 1906. Over the last more than 110 years, the ownership has changed from Buffalo Copper & Brass Company, to the American Brass Company, to Anaconda Industries, ARCO Metals, to the private Buffalo Brass Company, to the Finnish Outokumpu Group, to Swedish Nortic Capital, and finally to the German Aurubis AG, the current owner. The plant spans over 1.1 million square feet with a capacity to produce 350 million pounds of metal annually. The United Steelworkers have represented the production and maintenance employees at the plant since 1968. The production process begins with the melting of scrap and other raw materials that is cast into a large rectangular shape, called a "cake". These cakes are hot formed and rolled in a coil, which is subsequently milled to remove surface scale and oxidation. This wide coil is then cold rolled into a lighter gauge and then heat treated, or annealed, to prepare for the final slitting into narrower strip that is shipped to our customers. There are often a wide range of career opportunities both in production and in white collar roles in sales, finance, HR, and Engineering. There are also engineering internships readily available.
