Our valued BNMA Members,

We are seeing many of our Western New York Manufacturing members begin 2018 on strong footing. Recent data from The Buffalo-Niagara Manufacturing Index (PMI) is showing an increase in new orders, production and strong employment growth. These promising signs correlate with National and State indicators. Add to this, the recent federal tax reform in Washington and the future looks bright for manufacturers. The BNMA has positioned itself and its members in a place to insure continued success.

In March, we will have our Government Affairs Event at Pearl Street. John Evers from the Business Council will discuss issues that prevent or limit NY businesses from competing in domestic and international markets. Mr Evers will cover topics regarding the regulatory, tax, and business climate in NY, and share ways that you and your business associates can advocate for better policies at the State and Federal level.

The BNMA is proud to be serving as an operator of the Northland Workforce Training Center. Recruitment is going well and we look forward to the first classes starting in the fall. We will be announcing our board appointments soon. In addition, we will be hosting our premier event, Manufacturing Night in October at the newly opened facility.

We have put together a great series of events for 2018 beginning with our Succession Planning Events in March, and then adding Marketing and Trade Events in April in June.

For reservations and details on our events, along with other important updates within the Alliance, please visit our BNMA website.

As always it is an honor to serve our membership. Thank you for your continued support and I look forward to working with you in 2018.

Kevin Calvello,
BNMA President

We are excited to highlight Hadley Exhibits, a new BNMA member. Hadley will be opening their doors to the BNMA and our members when we tour their facility in April. Not only will we see a great manufacturing facility, we will also be learning best trade show practices, and the best way to present your brand and market your business at home and abroad.

Hadley Exhibits is a full service Exhibit House that designs, fabricates and installs trade show exhibits, museums, and other installations globally. HE also manages global exhibit programs of all sizes, from tabletop displays to 100’x150’ booths at the world’s most visited conferences.

With a global client base and previous client list that includes big names like Louis Vuitton, Smithsonian, FBI, New Era Cap, Zippo, W.R. Case & Sons, and SONY/Ericsson, Hadley Exhibits is a miniature innovation hub for trade shows and exhibits, and a thought leader in the industry. Ranked a top 40 Exhibit House in the US, Hadley Exhibits has a 90 person team at their location in Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo.
Hadley's fabrication and storage facility on Elmwood Ave in Buffalo, NY has over 180,000 sq. ft. of usable space for storage of exhibits and fabrication. They offer a complete range of exhibit related services including design, detailing, engineering, fabrication, installation, consulting and project management.
Big projects for 2018 include the Tennessee State Museum, the FBI Museum, The Museum of Tolerance in Jerusalem, Design of the Explore and More Children’s Museum, and many trade show projects around the US, Europe, and South Africa.
The Hadley Exhibits team is excited to be a part of the BNMA, and is thrilled to be able to open their doors to the membership this upcoming April.

The Erie County Industrial Development Agency has just released a Request for Expression of Interest asking potential interested parties in the ECIDA’s proposed Net Zero light manufacturing project for responses.

The ECIDA is looking for a partner who may be interested in co-financing, co-developing or own/occupying (or any combination of these) the first Net Zero Energy light manufacturing facility of its kind in New York State. A site has been chosen on the soon-to-be redeveloped Bethlehem Steel campus, and design plans and feasibility studies have been completed.

For more information, please visit this link on the ECIDA website, or call Phil Riggs at 716-856-6525.

Our training Center has a name, the Northland Workforce Training Center,, and a brand.

Northland is putting together a great team and is recruiting for the Fall of 2018. We will have students enrolled in programs provided by both Alfred State, and SUNY Erie previously ECC. We will need your help with our recruiting by joining the Northland Staff when they perform their outreach in the community and schools. We will be reaching out to discuss how you can help us build the skilled workforce pipeline.

The BNMA is presenting an interactive panel discussion with local experts in business succession and transition planning. Participants will learn to develop and integrate a sound plan for their company’s future. Succession Planning is about clarifying what you want for the future and defining the steps required to turn that vision into a reality, while taking into consideration business, personal and family expectations.

This event is for all business owners or leaders. Whether you plan on exiting in three years or 30 years, it’s important now. It’s not just about extracting maximum value from your business to provide for your future. Should an unforeseen event occur, lack of planning will cause unnecessary stress and potentially compromise your sale price, client relationships and the overall reputation of your business. The greatest transfer of wealth will occur over the next 10 years in the United States, 54% business owners plan on exiting their business within the next 10 years, and while most business owners agree that it is important to have a thorough exit strategy in place, 72% do not have a plan and aren't taking action.

The decision to exit a business is often very personal and complex for its owner. In order to ensure personal, family and business goals are achieved, a thorough plan should be put into place. Planning appropriately can be an essential component for protecting and preserving the value of an owner's company for him or herself and heirs. It is our goal to help our members develop a playbook. We will be presenting a series of  succession planning evenets throughout the year.
