THE BNMA BRIEF: Issue 3, Fall 2017

Our valued BNMA members,

As we say goodbye to summer we are pleased to bring to you the fall edition of our BNMA newsletter, The BNMA Brief.  It was great seeing so many of you at our summer events, starting in June with the JP Morgan Corporate challenge, then another sell-out of our annual golf outing at Arrowhead, and in August with a night at the ballpark for a Bisons game. We are very excited about the growth within our organization, as we recently added our 175th member company to the BNMA.

While our Events Committee has already begun preparations for our 2018 calendar of events, we still have 4 great events upcoming to close out 2017. We will tour TAM ceramics in Niagara Falls on Tuesday September 19th. On October 17th, we will celebrate Manufacturing month with a tour of the Engineering Technology department of Buffalo State. On November 14th we will tour A-Titan Instruments, and on December 12th we will have our annual Christmas party at Lancaster Country club. For reservations and details on our events, along with other important updates within the Alliance, please visit our BNMA website.

Once again, it is an honor and pleasure to serve as your President, representing the Alliance and its members within the Western New York Community. Thank you for your continued support of the BNMA. I look forward to working with you.

Kevin Calvello, BNMA President

Built on a solid foundation based on three principles; quality, trust, and tradition, A.Titan, began in 1998 as an importer and re-seller of surgical and dental instrumentation in Jamison, and has grown into a full service manufacturer. A. Titan has been recognized as an innovative leader in the dental community and manufacturing industry. It’s their mission to enhance the quality of patient care by providing our distribution partners and dental professionals superior quality products and instrumentation on the cutting edge of dentistry.

A.Titan’s recently moved into their new production facility located in Orchard Park. The 120,000 square foot facility sits on 16 acres. The additional land and manufacturing capacity provides the capacity A. Titan will need for future growth. The new production facility has allowed them to enhance services their customers require. These processes include general machining, engineering, milling, turning, anodizing, electro-polishing, laser marking, assembly, warehousing and packaging.

Being able to perform all manufacturing functions under one roof enhances efficiency and quality, through reduced cut times, and faster delivery of an impeccable product.

A.Titan’s engineering team recently partnered with a customer seeking a better solution for machining their valve bodies. This part required both milling and turning operations using multiple machines and multiple set-ups. It is now being produced in a single machine with an automated pallet pool, producing the complete parts in two operations. This required the purchase of a new machine with both milling and turning capabilities. The new machine partnered with the advanced fixturing designed and produced by A. Titan’s Engineers provided the cost effective solution their customer was looking for.

Specialized in the dental and medical field, A. Titan has solidified its footprint as an industry leader in manufacturing and distribution of dental surgical instrumentation. Holding several patents, A.Titan has worked with Dental Industry leaders to develop the newest, innovative line of products available on the market.

With the company’s 20-year anniversary rapidly approaching and technology ever changing, A.Titan has begun the process of implementing automated robotic assembly. Also on the horizon in 2018 is the addition of new laser cutting technology which will aid to further reduce cycle times on its current part offerings.

For nearly a century, the financial professionals at Evans Bank and The Evans Agency have helped countless Western New York businesses meet their goals through a variety of banking, lending, and insurance solutions. As a local organization, we take a vested interest in every business we serve and pride ourselves on finding the right solutions to compliment your success. Our personal touch makes the difference. With nearly 100 years of local management and a full range of financial services, including business banking, lending, cash management, and employee benefits, an Evans relationship is one you can trust. With Employee Benefits through Evans, we’ll work with you to develop a plan that maximizes your benefit dollars, while offering a personal level of service and support unique to your particular business.

Saving money on employee benefits is imperative in today’s economy. The cost of providing benefits is rising significantly, while employees consistently seek more from their benefit packages. Many employers struggle to balance employee needs with their own capabilities and the bottom line. Helping you meet these divergent needs is our specialty. Built upon a tradition of integrity, industry leadership and excellence, Evans is committed to delivering individually tailored benefit solutions with thoughtful strategic planning, valuable professional services, and technology-based solutions.

With that in mind, we understand that retaining a broker to advise you about your insurance and benefits programs is an important process. Understanding exactly how the broker-client-carrier relationship works can be cumbersome and Evans is here to help your business get the most of your relationship, while obtaining the best value for your employees.

Obtaining competitive quotes for coverage and handling problems with claims is only a small part of what you should expect from your insurance and employee benefits advisors. The Evans Agency goes further, providing quality service throughout the year, including human resources tools, claims data analysis services and much more. We use these tools to help you meet your benefits objectives, and will raise the bar for what you expect from your insurance broker.

Your employees are paying for a portion of your benefit plans, and consequently are paying a portion of our fees. You’ll want to ensure that you are providing the best value and service for your company and its employees by working with a quality organization. Our clear and professional enrollment materials and other resources can help keep your employees satisfied, healthy and safe.

Retaining The Evans Agency is simple. There is no typical contract used to retain an insurance broker on your behalf. The Evans Agency is independent and works with a wide range of carriers in order to provide the best products for your insurance and employee benefits programs. Utilizing Evans for your benefits and lending needs may add significant savings for your bottom line.

Empire State Development and the Economic Development Group Announce the Appointment of the President & CEO of the WNY Workforce Training Center

Stephen Tucker chosen to lead the innovative center in the Northland Corridor

It will also serve some of the most underrepresented populations in the region’s workforce. It is being developed as an adaptive reuse of roughly 100,000 square feet of space in the former Clearing Niagara factory at 683 Northland Avenue on Buffalo’s East Side. The center will anchor a 35 acre business park as part of the Northland Avenue Redevelopment Area (a brownfield reclamation project) and will train 350 people each year. Rehabilitation and construction of the WTC began last month and it’s set to open by the Fall of 2018.  The project is a partnership between ESD, the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation (BUDC), the City of Buffalo and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and is being funded by the Governor’s Buffalo Billion revitalization initiative.

Stephen was recruited to his new position in Buffalo through Performance Management Partners.

Thomas Lynch, Treasurer of the Economic Development Group said, “The Economic Development Group partners are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to bring Stephen to Buffalo to lead the Workforce Training Center at Northland.  Stephen’s experience with the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati along with Partners for a Competitive Workforce make him an ideal candidate to fill this critical role and we look forward to his contributions to the Center as well as to the WNY community.”

Stephen Tucker, President & CEO of the WNY Workforce Training Center said, "I am both humbled and excited to be selected as the inaugural President & CEO of the Western New York Workforce Training Center. I look forward to collaborating with business and industry, economic development, education and workforce stakeholders to ensure Western New York has the highest caliber workforce which is critical to our region's future success."

“The addition of Stephen Tucker as the President and CEO of the Western New York Workforce Training Center is a great step forward for this important initiative,” said Gil C. Quiniones, NYPA President and CEO. “New York State needs a motivated and skilled utility and clean energy workforce to secure its energy future and this center is an essential component of Governor Cuomo’s long-term energy vision for the state.”

Born and raised in Ohio, Stephen served four years in the Unites States Air Force as an Electronic Technician before returning to Cincinnati and attending college through the GI Bill. Stephen has served as the Assistant Executive Director at the Partners for a Competitive Workforce in Cincinnati, Ohio. Previous to that position, Stephen served as Vice President for Workforce Development at Urban League of Greater Cincinnati. His academic achievements include: an A.S., in Business Administration from University of Cincinnati, a B.S., in Criminal Justice from Wilberforce University and an M.B.A. from Indiana Wesleyan University.
